About Us
Our staff is comprised of highly talented craftsmen and women dedicated to building quality custom cabinetry. One of our great strengths is the breadth and depth of our individual woodworking experience.
Jim got his start cutting down oak trees and turning them into firewood and fence posts on the family farm. Later he graduated to building fences and barn gates before he took off for Johns Hopkins University and got a degree in Soil Science and Creative Writing. When he came to California in 1976, he set up a one-man shop in a two-car garage, building a wide array of wooden items from retaining walls to jewelry boxes. He moved Lignum Vitae, Ltd to its current location in 1984 and has concentrated on the creation of beautiful and functional wood interiors for both the residential and commercial markets. An avid cook, he particularly enjoys collaborating in the design and construction of lovely, workable kitchens. When he’s not working, he can be found in his garden or his kitchen or singing with one of his choirs.
Kevin was once a Connecticut surfer and sailor who pursued an interest in art and architecture to the West Coast. Once in California, he worked as a boat builder under the famed designer and builder, Tom Wylie. He then started his own cabinet-making business, which he operated for more than 10 years until he decided that he preferred the challenges of hand craftsmanship more than the headaches of management. For the last 15 years he has been in charge of installation for Lignum Vitae, Ltd where his experience, skill and ability to work well with others have made him known and respected throughout the industry. He still loves to sail.
Jason also rode the waves in his youth, as a San Diego surfer. From an early age, he developed his skills working with wood and with woodworking tools. His experience ranges from instrument-making to stage set construction, and he is also an expert in the setup, maintenance and repair of wood working machinery especially CNC tools. Since joining Lignum Vitae, Ltd in 2008, his passion for accuracy and efficiency has been instrumental in revitalizing the shop to meet the challenges of difficult times. When he’s not working, Jason likes to ride motorcycles and make and play drums.
